‘look at where we are / remember where we started out’
When this track comes on the car stereo my knee instinctively braces itself for a hand to be rested on it; it is the perfect simple reminder to take in the person next to you, appreciate what has happened to get you there together, and to look forward to whatever lies ahead. The song is Hot Chip’s new album’s signature smoldering slow jam a la One Life Stand’s I Feel Better. Love. #indie / tory
Today’s Indie: If I Was Your Girlfriend (Hot Chip Cover) / Prince /// Motion Sickness / Hot Chip /// Flutes / Hot Chip
So the indie extraordinaire and goddess of all things awesome is out of town up in the Pac NW gettin silly and listening to dAHnce music. That leaves me to fulfill the indie portion of today’s post.
So we have Hot Chip who’s new album ‘In Our Heads’ is due out on the 11th. They obviously have an electronic element to them so today’s post should come at no surprise. Have a great weekend. We’ll see you on Monday! #indie / tom
Today’s Untz: With You Feat. Grovesnor / Flight Facilities
Flight Facilities have a brand new single called ‘With You’ featuring the Hot Chip drummer Grovesnor on vocals and it’s superb.
The Syndey duo has been all over the place since 2010′s single ‘Crave You’ which featured vocals from Giselle. They’ve also had tremendous success with fabulously done remixes from some of our favorites: Holy Ghost! and Cut Copy. And who can forget ‘Foreign Language feat. Jess’ in 2011. So needless to say, I’ve been eagerly anticipating this release which you can grab today!
There are a ton of really great supporting remixes too. Danny Daze does his thing per usual, but my favorite is the recently blogged about duo, MAM, which add an extra layer of oozing disco summertime boogie. The original and MAM remix will be on repeat for some time and I’m sure this track will soon be remixed by everyone and their mother because who could possibly NOT touch this one. #untz/tom
This post comes a day early and from 30,000 feet somewhere over Arizona (thanks gogo) as I find myself en route to Costa Rica. I am reuniting with two of my best college friends from the other coast for seven days of sun, surfing, monkeys, mango, and lots and lots of beer. No words to express this excitement, but a couple of fantastic songs to carry the week.
Today’s Emo: I Feel Better / Hot Chip
‘I only want one night, together in our arms / this is the longest night, we’re meeting arms to arms‘
Somehow Hot Chip makes robots sound sexy, and I love it. The Brit electro-pop gang garnered my interest with Boy From School and Ready for the Floor, but won me over with this string filled, nintendo game-esque declaration of adoration. The music video is also absurdly entertaining, and while boy bands and aliens don’t exactly mesh with the lyrics of this song, it worth a view (or three). #emo
Ellie Goulding has a sultry sweet English voice, a la Kate Nash, and has done some crazy good slow jam covers on anything from Bon Iver’s the Wolves to Rihanna’s Only Girl in the World. She also has a most mashable sound and has been sampled and untz’afied by some of the worlds best djs. This Bassnector remix of Lights is insane. Even if you hate dubstep, just try not get blown away by the drum and bass. Bon voyage. #untz
