Today’s Indie: Under / AOSOON

‘when we go under / we don’t stay down, we come up’

I came across AOSOON on Saturday night when their track  interrupted an evening of cheap wine and much better conversation with my friend Kristen, and I had one of my drop everything, who is this playing moments. With an instrumental intro out of Friday Night Lights, rich, accent laden vocals, and the simplest and most reassuring of choruses, I was transfixed. And now in the light of the day, I still have Under on repeat.

AOSOON stands for A Lot of Something Out of Nothing (not so sure where that L went, but willing to let it slide) and is compromised of London’s 20 year old (!!) vocalist/guitarist Marisa Hylton and bassist Manny Flolorunso. What has won me over is Marisa’s voice, which reminds of me of the likes of Of Monster and Men‘s Nanna Bryndís Hilmarsdóttir’s mixed with Cold Specks. The duo have released an EP, What is This About, featuring Under, and it is all well worth a listen. Happy discovery.  #indie
