Today’s Untz: Body Talk (Grum Remix) / Kevin McKay
Grum is back! This is I believe the second track he’s released in the last month or so having taken quite a break before. Welcome back Grum!
Today’s Untz: Maui Falls / Damn Right!
Philadelphia based trio, Damn Right! is drummer/producer/designer Tommy Bradel, bassist/producer/vocalist Johnny Fissinger and producer/instrumentalist FLOTE. I saw these guys back in my east coast days when they played with another band member.
The sound has changed over time. In the past, the had a much more jammier element whereas nowadays they seem to be focusing on a much more structured sound almost like Mansions On The Moon, who coincidentally has similar roots. Check it out for yourself and go grab the free download.
Today’s Indie: Golden Ocean / Miner
‘I need someone to love / yeah someone I can hold in the sun’
A very quick indie hello as Tom and I gear up to head into the mountains for the 23rd Annual High Sierra Music Festival up in Quincy this afternoon for four days of hot sun, cold beers, music, revelry, friendship and barefoot dancing babies. To send us off, a track from Miner, who are playing Thursday and Friday afternoons. A happy early 4th to all! #indie/tory
Today’s Untz: My Baby / Pherotone
Here’s a new release from this up and coming producer hot off the release of his first track ‘Flossy’.
Pherotone is Eren Akkan, originally from Istanbul, Turkey.
“Embracing all kinds of vibes, but if narrowed down to a few words, ‘soulful vocals, wide synths, claps, clicks, sea breeze, funk, disco, chords, loops, colors, scents and melodies that stimulate senses’.”
Today’s Untz: Modern Hearts (Night Drive Remix) / The Knocks
‘Night Drive is the type of music you would hear on a car stereo if Giorgio Moroder and Ray Bradbury were driving late at night through a buzzing metropolis. Inspired by bygone era of glamour and excess, kalioscopic neon lights, Studio 54 and Tony Wilson’s Hacienda, the band pulls influence from acts such as Brian Eno, New Order, OMD, The Drums and LCD Soundsystem to name a few. Night Drive rides a nu-wave of fast-tempoed, synth-based electronic sounds driven by rich guitar melodies and arresting vocal hooks.’
Today’s Untz: What I Like (Bodhi Remix) / Charlie XCX
Here’s a great tune I heard from the blog XLR8R some time ago that I’m now just re-listening to. I’m headed down to the California central coast this weekend so this track will surely be going on that playlist.
Bodhi (Luke & Olly) who hail from Cardiff, Britain have done a great job with this Charlie XCX track… groovy bass ensues.
Today’s Indie: Motherland / Silver Firs
Friday afternoon ends with a track from Swiss newcomers the Silver Firs, which has the kind of foot tapping beat I would want to follow me into an adventure in the woods, perhaps evoked by their name. Perfect timing as I pack up to head up to Tahoe for the weekend to celebrate the wedding of a dear friend amidst the trees. The quartet is releasing this track with two additional songs on a debut EP on the 28th, and if they are as feel good as Motherland, then take me home. #indie / tory
