Today’s Untz: What I Like (Bodhi Remix) / Charlie XCX

Here’s a great tune I heard from the blog XLR8R some time ago that I’m now just re-listening to. I’m headed down to the California central coast this weekend so this track will surely be going on that playlist.

Bodhi (Luke & Olly) who hail from Cardiff, Britain have done a great job with this Charlie XCX track… groovy bass ensues.

Today’s Indie: Hard to Find / The National

TWFM

‘I can see the glowing lights / I can see them every night  / really not that far away / I could be there in a day’

Trouble Will Find Me. For me, it was not the kind of album that I knew if I really liked after a listen or two, or three, but then suddenly found it bound to my bones, being carried around with me into my day long after its sounds had faded. Etched in Matt’s signature baritone, stretched across a canvas of tremble inducing lyrics and melodies to settle into, it found me and I found it.

Hard to Find is the closing track and provides the perfect sense of an ending to the album, tracing something left behind and lost in cobwebs but present in the mind, from time to time. The National has reminded me, and not for the first time, that patience is a virtue, a very rewarding virtue. #indie/tory

Today’s Indie: Motherland / Silver Firs

Friday afternoon ends with a track from Swiss newcomers the Silver Firs, which has the kind of foot tapping beat I would want to follow me into an adventure in the woods, perhaps evoked by their name. Perfect timing as I pack up to head up to Tahoe for the weekend to celebrate the wedding of a dear friend amidst the trees. The quartet is releasing this track with two additional songs on a debut EP on the 28th, and if they are as feel good as Motherland, then take me home. #indie / tory

Today’s Untz: Reaction / Air Zaïre

With the other half (indie/tory) having started a new job, the untz might be taking over. For what it’s worth I don’t even know what “untz” is. I like the lighter side of things over here on this blog whereas I tend to get a bit deeper over at The Trash Juice.

In keeping with that general direction, today we have the  beach’d out track, ‘Reaction’. I’m not sure how new to the scene Air Zaïre is, but welcome to the Moon Boots, Viceroy n’ crew party! #untz/tom

Today’s Indie: Modern Jesus / Portugal. The Man

‘who cares if hell awaits / we’re having drinks at heaven’s gates’

I have never been able to get over the misplaced period in Portugal. The Man’s name (didn’t that sentence just confuse you?) but that hasn’t stopped me from thoroughly enjoying the Portlandian quintet’s bliss inducing sound. Modern Jesus is off the band’s seventh full length studio effort, Evil Friends, out last Tuesday, and  it has me stuck on repeat. The playful Nintendo ping intro giving way to casual do-do-doos and then John Gourley’s catching vocals echoing  relevant lyrics (‘you don’t need sympathy / they got a pill for everything  / just take that dark cloud / ring it out to wash it now’) make Modern Jesus the perfect steady chill segue into the weekend. #indie/tory

Today’s Untz: Flossy / Pherotone

Here’s a choice song for your summer playlist filled with Fergie samples. Pherotone is Eren Akkan, originally from Istanbul, Turkey.

Embracing all kinds of vibes, but if narrowed down to a few words, ‘soulful vocals, wide synths, claps, clicks, sea breeze, funk, disco, chords, loops, colors, scents and melodies that stimulate senses’. #untz/tom

Today’s Untz: Keep On Moving / AIMES

From AIMES:  “I made this track after my visit to Mazatlan this spring. I was inspired by the laid back vibe, the hospitality of my friends and the locals, and the tropical flavors. When I got back to New York spring was finally springing and I wanted to make a song that reflected the energy of the city and and my anticipation for summer.

If you dig it don’t forget to like, comment, and share!”

Make sure you go the grab the free download, turn it up, and reel in the good vibez

Today’s Untz: La La La (Pále Remix) / Naughty Boy

Here’s a blissful remix from London/Manchester’s Leo Marcus aka Pale. This is the kinda track that will have you floatin in the stars before you even know what’s happened. This is a track that will get plenty of person airplay, from long beautiful drives to a chill late night. What a discovery! #untz/tom

Today’s Untz: Pony (Viceroy  “Jet Life” Remix) / Ginuwine

Here is Viceroy’s official remix of “Pony” by Ginuwine. This is his 6th installment of his “Jet LIfe” remix series. It of course has the classic good weather feel.

I’m loving the instant reggae-ish beat accompanied by that island loving percussion. It’s tough to tell if that was recorded from live instruments, but regardless it sounds great and gives it an organic feel. Viceroy always seems to pick that perfect 90’s track to remix and this one is no different. Enjoy. #untz/tom

Yuba

Today’s Indie: Congo / Bear Mountain

Rhythm. Soul. Congo. I present the track to send you off into your three day weekend, wherever it may take you, a song that radiates the art of feeling good so perfectly that it drives tingles from your fingers to your tapping toes. Steady tribal beats meet a choppy chorus and the perfect blend of synth pop, made complete by Ian Bevis’ distinct and captivating vocals. Bear Mountain is comprised of Vancouver BC’s Bevis and friend Kyle Stratham, and what started as a pet project has turned into an official album release this week, XO, via Last Gang Records. They remind me of Tanlines meets Passion Pit, with loads more restraint, and I have been getting lost in the album and smiling to myself all morning.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I do, and have a wonderful safe long weekend. We are unplugging and heading up to camp along the Yuba River in Northern Tahoe, captured above. #indie/tory
