Today’s Indie: Slow it Down / The Lumineers

‘act like you’ve been here before / smile less and dress up some more’

Welp, it is a rainy Monday, and I am in a bit of an emo mood today, so here is an emo track and a happy dog (our dear friend T, rocking some killer protective booties on our camping trip up the Lost Coast). As I mentioned last week, I just discovered Colorado’s The Lumineers, and life wont be the same. While Slow it Down is decidedly more glum than the band’s upbeat Ho Hey, there is something so pulling in lead singer Wesley Schultz’ despair ridden vocals and tale of trying to move through life when you feel like part of you is missing. As it says at the end, ‘don’t you frown when you’re feelin’ like that / only love can dig you out of this.’ #indie / tory

Today’s Untz: Miracle (Viceroy Remix) / Ghost Beach

Ahhh it’s Monday, but we have a new tune from Viceroy to lift our spirits. This time around he turns the original which already has elements of a tropical sound, into an even more beach friendly track. We get a little more bongo action in the remix while the original has a deeper synth bass groove.

I think they both compliment each other extremely well. It’s reminiscent of a recent post on the new Flight Facilities song. Both the MAM remix in that case and the original have been getting equal play time. The same occurs here.

Regardless of your preference (not that you have to choose one), both the original and Viceroy’s remix will take you to a place where the sun always shines and smiles reign supreme. #untz (and indie?) / tom

Today’s Untz: Off The Wall (GMGN Remix) / Michael Jackson

After recently coming across a Michael Jackson Afrojack remix and not liking it, I needed to have the King Of Pop redeemed via the way of the untz. Music is subjective and judging by the likes on Hypem, many people enjoyed it so I’m not hating. I’m just a huge MJ fan that’s a bit picky when it comes to remixes.

Good Morning Good Night (GMGN), AKA Ben Adams, turns a classic into a disco infused house track that would be ripe for any dancefloor. The kind of dance floor where the space in the music allows you to bust out some serious dance moves. The kind of dance moves that don’t just involve jumping straight up in the air with your fist pumping… not that there’s anything wrong with that.

It’s Friday, the sun is shining, and the weather is sweet. So listen to this here track and let it make you move your dancing feet. In the words of MJ…

‘So tonight
Gotta leave that nine to five upon the shelf
An’ just enjoy yourself
Groove
Let the madness in the music get to you
Life ain’t so bad at all
If you live it off the wall’

Today’s Indie: Boogie Lights / Work Drugs

‘it feels so good / it feels so good to dream’

Even with a short week, Friday could not come soon enough. Celebrate with this new Work Drugs song, which has California summer written all over it. The track is off the group’s upcoming album, Absolute Bearing, out this July.  Work Drugs self identify as ‘Philadelphia’s premier Bat Mitzvah and Quinceanera party band.’ A pretty lofty title to carry out, but the boys do it well. Buckle up and let’s go for a drive down Route 1. #indie / tory
