Today’s Indie: Clair De Lune / Flight Facilities ft. Christine Hoberg

‘don’t go / tell me that the lights won’t change / tell me that it will stay the same’

A stretching of strings leads into Clair De Lune, met with distant echoed vocals slowly making their way closer, pulling you further into the track until you get lost.  Flight Facilities’ Clair De Lune was one of the standout tracks that came out while we were in Asia in November, and I am finally catching up with a belated but loving post.

The track is more mellow and bedroom bound than the Australians’ usual antics, and I am loving this revelation of their softer side, especially with the silvery vocals etched throughout. The collaboration proves again that the duo is really good at partnering with killer songstresses – Christine Hoberg sounds right up there with Crave You’s Gisselle. #indie/tory

crave it like you mean it

10 Oct

Filled this weekend with a little bit of work followed by a lot of fun with Fleet Week, the Blue Angels airshow and excellent company. San Francisco offered up one of her best weekends yet, and I enter into the workweek with reinvigorated tan lines and a crippling need for coffee.

Today’s Emo: Say It Like You Mean It / Cinema

‘I picture her in the streetlight / barefoot for the whole night’

Today’s emo is probably the closest TUATE has actually gotten to actual emo, reminding me of the sacred bands of my high school years — Something Corporate, Dashboard Confessional, Third Eye Blind –but with a Frou Frou-esque kind of an edge to reel me in in the present tense. The Cinema is the side project of Arizonian indie rock group Lydia. #emo

Today’s Untz: I Crave Paris / Aeroplane vs. Flight Facilities vs. Friendly Fires

‘rehearsed steps on an empty stage / that boy’s got my heart in a silver cage’

Mash-up Monday. Three big players intertwine here with Aeroplane weaving Friendly Fires’ Paris into Flight Facilities Crave You, and the sounds melt together seamlessly. I shared a killer Adventure Club remix of Crave You a couple of months back, but this light and tropical angle feels just right. #untz

crave a come down

Friday doesn’t feel like Friday when you know you have to go to work on Saturday. Exhausted. Music to the rescue?

Today’s Emo: Coming Down / Dum Dum Girls

‘by tomorrow I’ll be gone / if you wanna tell me something / you had better make it strong’

Coming Down has an effervescent, Wild Horses couldn’t keep me away kind of feel to it, where things start to slow down around you when you listen. I am finding myself totally bewitched by these California ladies’ new single, off their sophomore album, Only Dreams, out September 27th via my favorite label, Sub Pop.

Lead singer Dee Dee (Kristin Gundred) has the chops and songwriting strength of Cat Power, and this song sounds dangerously close to one of my favorite Mazzy Star songs, Fade Into You. I could imagine it being played in one of those epic montages at the end of an episode of House, instilling a lingering feeling of letting go and finality. Not the best upper for a Friday, but worth a dozen listens nonetheless. #emo

Today’s Untz: Crave You / Flight Facilities (Adventure Club Dubstep Remix)

‘why can’t you want me like the other boys do / they stare at me while I stare at you’

Sultry vocals and a very self assured young lady who considers herself to be dripping in gold get untzified via dubstep duo Adventure Club’s dance worthy antics. Flight Facilities present that age old problem of finding oneself amidst a bevy of suitors (life is tough) yet only attracted to the one person who could care less, and Adventure Club really nails the remix, taking the song from a 6 to a 9 in no time. Crave worthy. #untz
