Today’s Untz: Flex (Aeroplane Remix) / Pool

“The internationally renowned and adored producer Vito de Luca a.k.a. Aeroplane puts his own spin on ‘Flex’ with an incredibly smooth and sexy remix. 50 BPM slower than the original, Aeroplane honours the guitars and vocals, weaving the elements into his own spacious disco style.” #untz/tom

crave it like you mean it

10 Oct

Filled this weekend with a little bit of work followed by a lot of fun with Fleet Week, the Blue Angels airshow and excellent company. San Francisco offered up one of her best weekends yet, and I enter into the workweek with reinvigorated tan lines and a crippling need for coffee.

Today’s Emo: Say It Like You Mean It / Cinema

‘I picture her in the streetlight / barefoot for the whole night’

Today’s emo is probably the closest TUATE has actually gotten to actual emo, reminding me of the sacred bands of my high school years — Something Corporate, Dashboard Confessional, Third Eye Blind –but with a Frou Frou-esque kind of an edge to reel me in in the present tense. The Cinema is the side project of Arizonian indie rock group Lydia. #emo

Today’s Untz: I Crave Paris / Aeroplane vs. Flight Facilities vs. Friendly Fires

‘rehearsed steps on an empty stage / that boy’s got my heart in a silver cage’

Mash-up Monday. Three big players intertwine here with Aeroplane weaving Friendly Fires’ Paris into Flight Facilities Crave You, and the sounds melt together seamlessly. I shared a killer Adventure Club remix of Crave You a couple of months back, but this light and tropical angle feels just right. #untz

Bring on the weekend.

Today’s Emo: Weekend / Class Actress

‘you make me late for work / you make me late for church / so hard to leave’

Fall arrives with more sultry, female driven, smooth laced indie in tow. Class Actress’ Elizabeth Harper has stolen my airwaves along the likes of Lana Del Rey, causing me to re-evaluate my usual allegiance to the smokey male vocal. There is something delightfully sweet wrapped up in this electro-pop jam without being too syrupy, and I find it instantly and appropriately slipping me into weekend mode. The track is off  Class Actress’ new album, Rapproacher, out in October. #emo

Today’s Untz: Big Boys Don’t Cry / Aeroplane

Aeroplane posted this track, and a short message, in response to the accidental death of French-born DJ Mehdi. “Hi all, I’m not good with words. But somehow since Tuesday I couldn’t think right and something needed to get out. Music being the only medium I know how to use, here it is. It’s called ‘Big Boys Don’t Cry.’ Once again, my thoughts go out to all my friends who are going through hard times right now.”

A horn blowing intro leads us into something less tangible and more celestial with tingly dripping notes, amidst sinister whispers of ‘big boys don’t cry’ interwoven throughout. While crafted in response to tragedy, there is also a sense of celebration in the sound. #untz

stateless sound

31 Aug

Today’s theme, in two acts: songs best played behind closed doors.

Today’s Emo: Bloodstream / Stateless

‘I think I might’ve inhaled you / I can feel you behind my eyes’

An emo from the vault that I have found on repeat as of late… this song has me sighing within the first few key strokes. Bloodstream echos that feeling when love (or lust) washes over you like a drug, leaving you all fuzzy and heavy headed with dazed eyes, at its mercy until you come down.

Stateless is a five piece British electronic rock group that has been around since the early 2000’s. They released a new album out last winter, but I just keep tracing my way back here to curl up. Addicted. #emo

Today’s Untz: The Sound of Violence / Cassius (Aeroplane remix)

‘another night, another day / it’s better this way, let the music play’

A misleading title, because there is nothing but peace and love wrapped up into this remix of a Cassius classic. The lyrics are a little, er, direct, but luckily my mom tends to just read the little blurbs at the top of my posts to keep tabs on what I am up to, instead of delving into the tracks themselves. I suppose today’s blurb doesn’t help my case. So it goes. Tropical and smooth in sound, I would love to settle into this song with a beer on a beach… dare I say, when the sun goes down? #untz
