Today’s Untz: Darius & Crayon / Alicia

Talk about a song that just makes you wish you could escape the grind. Eventually I will free myself of whatever it is we’re “supposed” to do. The time I’m donating now will ultimately bring me to paradise whether it’s mental, physical, or both. For now this song is helping me envision that place.

Here it in Darius’ words:

“Our new single ‘Alicia’ with my friend Le Crayon.

From pointless debates about the existence of aliens to more serious late night/early morning demos sharing, we started to feel that our tastes and ambitions, musicwise, were to get more and more similar. “Alicia” combines this laidback and carefree atmosphere, dreamy slow-mo vibes with a powerful funk groove. May this be the soundtrack of your most perfect day.

Today’s Untz: Fade (Le Youth Remix) / Jakwob

I’m in love with the original track, but came across this remix last week and came away super impressed as Le Youth takes it in an entirely different direction.  It gravitates towards a disco influenced old house track. A dance floor heater indeed. #untz/tom

ocean tides

28 Mar

For almost two years I have posted my indie every Monday, Wednesday, Friday with the diligence and consistency of a morning newspaper delivery, often staying up late the night before or rising early to ensure each post made my self imposed deadline, as if a job depended on it. And I know lately I have been faltering, with a post a week at best. “Real life” has gotten in the way of music life and blog life, such that I have had less time to write and even less to discover music, and I don’t want to put quick shit out for either category. Bare with me, TUATI is still a labor of love, and I wont let it slip away.

Today’s Indie: Ocean Tides / Kyson

Now that the elephant is out of the room, here is an ethereal track from Australian born, Berlin based singer and producer Kyson, released late last fall. His almost-spoken whisper like vocals in the song’s opening remind me of Jamie’s sultry presence in The xx, and they blend seamlessly with slow moving keys and light washes of rain. You can almost picture this layered sound as fog over the ocean in its title… it’s the perfect ‘do not disturb’ music. #indie/tory

Today’s Untz: Fade (Etherwood VIP) / Jakwob

Here’s a pretty track from Jakwob that has been given the drum n bass treatment from Etherwood. Soothing bass for the soul. #untz/tom

Today’s Untz: Attracting Flies / AlunaGeorge

‘A lot of bands meet as kids at school. Others come together after an over-enthusiastic conversation about music at some random party. Aluna Francis and George Reid however, met through the internet.

While their online encounter is more MySpace than Match.com, it was in fact through a mutual respect for each other’s work that led them to go on to form AlunaGeorge. Now together for just barely a year, the talented duo have been churning out a series of infectious mixes which fuse Francis’ sweet vocal harmonies with the hushed electronic stylings courtesy of Reid.’

‘Attracting Flies’ clearly shows they have no intention of slowing down their momentum. With remixes due out from Jamie Jones & Baauer expect big things from the original and the slew of remixes sure to be released. #untz.tom

Today’s Untz : Shine / Digitaria

Brazilian duo Digitaria get set to ‘Shine’ even brighter with a highly anticipated second EP for the one and only Hot Creations. A potent mix of sweetly sensual vocals and dreamy electro pop with a kick for the dance floor. #untz/tom

Today’s Untz: Only You Can Show Me (feat Mereki) / Goldroom

As a long time Goldroom fan (musically and when he contributed often to his blog/label Binary Entertainment) I can honestly say I’ve always loved everyone of his productions or remixes.

I’ve been to LA a number of times, but every time I listen to him I swear I feel like I’ve lived there for years. And I’m not talking West Hollywood. I’m talking everything that’s great about LA… warm weather, palm trees, sunshine, beautiful people, good vibes… His music just oozes with it.

I’m planning on catching him here in SF soon with Viceroy. I’m pumped to check out his live setup. “Only You Can Show Me” instantly seems like a song that will make the transition to a live band seamlessly especially with that percussion.

Mereki, featured on this track, happens to be a part of the live show as well. If the pictures Goldroom loved to put up on his blog say anything she’s surely just as attractively LA as her voice is beautiful. I’m  looking forward to this one. #untz/tom
